The poppy is an instantly recognisable symbol of respect for those who've made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts past and present. As the nation's custodian of Remembrance, the Legion is committed to helping everyone understand the importance of Remembrance, so those sacrifices are never forgotten.




History

Remembrance Sunday - Lest We Forget
In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, the Sunday nearest to 11th November which was 'Armistice Day' is the anniversary of the end of the hostilities of the First World War at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

The red poppy or the 'Flanders Poppy' has long been an iconic image that symbolizes peace and remembrance on this day.
